Central Heating Surrey — Installation, Repair and Upgrade
Central heating is the most important system in your home for comfort through the colder months. Whether you need a brand new central heating system installed, want to extend your existing system with additional radiators, need repairs carried out on a system that is not performing properly, or want to upgrade your controls with a modern smart thermostat, 247 Plumber Surrey covers the full range of central heating work across the whole of Surrey county including Guildford, Woking, Epsom, Camberley, Farnham, Redhill, Reigate and all surrounding areas.
Our Gas Safe registered engineers have extensive experience with all types of central heating systems found in Surrey homes, from traditional open-vented systems in older properties to modern sealed pressurised systems, underfloor heating and zone-controlled multi-room systems. We carry out work on systems of all ages and configurations.
Central Heating Services We Provide in Surrey
New Central Heating System Installation
Many Surrey properties still do not have full central heating — particularly older cottages and period properties in rural parts of Surrey, and some converted flats that were originally heated by storage heaters. We install complete new central heating systems including the boiler, all pipework, radiators, controls and programmer. A new system is designed specifically for your property, taking into account the number of rooms, the insulation levels, window sizes and occupancy to calculate the correct radiator sizes and boiler output needed.
Radiator Installation and Replacement
Adding radiators to rooms that currently have none, replacing old cast iron column radiators with modern steel panel radiators, or fitting designer radiators in bathrooms and kitchens — we carry out all types of radiator work across Surrey properties. When adding a radiator to an existing system, we ensure the boiler and pump are adequately sized to serve the increased demand without reducing the performance of the rest of the system.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves
Fitting thermostatic radiator valves to existing radiators is one of the most cost-effective heating upgrades available. TRVs allow the heat output of each individual radiator to be controlled independently, reducing energy consumption in rooms that do not need to be heated to the same level as the living areas. We fit TRVs to all types of radiator connection and set them to appropriate levels for each room type.
Powerflush and System Cleaning
Central heating systems accumulate sludge — a mixture of corrosion products, scale deposits and magnetite — in the radiators and pipework over time. This sludge reduces efficiency, causes cold spots in radiators, increases boiler wear and can eventually cause pump failure. A powerflush uses high-velocity water flow combined with specialist cleaning chemicals to dislodge and remove sludge from the entire system, restoring it to clean condition. We recommend a powerflush before installing a new boiler into an older system, and every five to eight years as routine maintenance.
Smart Thermostat and Controls Upgrade
Replacing an older mechanical programmer and room thermostat with a modern smart thermostat such as a Hive, Nest, Tado or Worcester Wave gives you much greater control over your heating schedule, allows remote control via a smartphone app, and can reduce your gas bills through more intelligent heating patterns. We install all major smart thermostat brands and ensure they are correctly configured and compatible with your boiler before handing over.
Central Heating Repairs
Common central heating faults we repair across Surrey include pump failures, motorised zone valve failures, room thermostat faults, programmer failures, airlocked radiators, leaking radiator valves, and heat loss from poorly balanced systems. We diagnose the root cause of the problem rather than replacing parts unnecessarily, and carry a wide range of common heating components on our vans to resolve most faults on the first visit.
Central Heating in Surrey Properties
Surrey’s hard water supply means that scale build-up in heating systems is a significant and ongoing issue. Limescale builds up inside boiler heat exchangers and on the surfaces of pipes and radiators, reducing heat transfer efficiency and increasing energy consumption. We strongly recommend fitting a scale inhibitor to all Surrey heating systems, particularly those in the Guildford, Woking, Epsom and Leatherhead areas where water hardness is particularly high.
Older Surrey properties, particularly those in Guildford, Farnham, Dorking and the smaller Surrey towns and villages, often have older open-vented systems with header tanks in the loft. These systems can be converted to modern sealed systems at the time of a boiler replacement, eliminating the need for loft tanks, reducing the risk of freezing pipes in the loft, and allowing the system to be pressurised for more efficient operation. We assess whether conversion is appropriate for each property before recommending it.

How much does a new central heating system cost in Surrey?
The cost of a new central heating system in Surrey depends on the size of the property, the number of radiators required, and the boiler chosen. We provide a detailed written quotation after a free survey of your property. There are no hidden costs and the price we quote is the price you pay.
How often should central heating be serviced in Surrey?
Your boiler should be serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer to keep it running efficiently, maintain the manufacturer warranty and ensure safe operation. The wider central heating system — including the radiators, controls and pipework — should be checked at the same time for any signs of corrosion or inefficiency.
Why are some of my radiators cold in my Surrey home?
Cold radiators most commonly indicate either that the radiator needs bleeding to release trapped air, or that sludge has accumulated in the radiator restricting the flow of hot water. A cold bottom with warm top suggests air; a cold bottom with warm top suggests sludge and blockage. We diagnose which is causing the problem and carry out the appropriate remedy — bleeding, balancing or powerflush.
